As most of my customers know, I've had to schedule some funny hours lately.I am needed away from the business for 5 hours on every wednesday and friday afternoon somethingIhope to have rectified soon. I've accomodated this by working extended hours on those days. and adding mondays to my schedule. I've also taken on alot of new business in the last 2 months which is really good news! Soon summer will be upon us and there will be more scheduling changes. But of late, despite the large number of hours I work, I am filling up further in advance than I am used to. I'm working on the return of an apprentise to Electrolysis By Seana, but I dont know who that might be yet. I am however urging customers to book as early as they can. It's taking up to a week to book in at this point, and many customers who have gotten to booking just before, are finding there are no time slots available for them. This is good news for the business but problematic if you need hairs off now! We are doing our best to offer the maximum availability that we can , and will be adding another electrologist soon.
So much has changed since that last post, and this is one fairly ignored part of my site so I thought I would give an update on how things are now going. December and January were our worst months ever, but I've come to know and expect that as seasonal downturn.Things improved a bit in february and continued to get better right through to now. But I carry a large expense load for office and supplies . So there's room for improvement, but I am finally getting almost enough traffic. My 2017 total sales, put me very close to the limit to no longer be considered a "small supplier" so as of May 4 I am registered to now collect the HST tax. I'm facing a large challenge on my time to accomodate a family need, I am having to close for large parts of wed and friday. I've extended hours on most of my weekdays to provide more availability, and am currently working 6 days a week. While it's tempting to bring another apprentice on board and long term I will, I'm being a bit choosey as to who I will have in and not in any hurry.
I finally decided to use this part of the site for something, and it's pretty important. I in a lot of ways havent been talking about this aspect of my business, but it's long past the time that I do.
I opened Electrolysis By Seana last February in a hurry, actually, in a couple of days. after I learned that my employment at Time for You was to end.I did the very best I could, to keep the treatment and service from one establishment as smooth and flawless as I possibly could manage.I spared no expense or effort in the renovations of what was for me, as a first office, much more than I needed ( or could afford). I still believe it's an ideal location and I regret not making better use of the space. I had hoped to attract someone to rent the second office, but that hasnt happened. I also filled the second office with another electrologist in the hope of attracting more clientele, but that has not worked out long term for that electrologist or me. To put it simply, my clientele has not grown over the last year, it has decreased.
And this in the end is the crux of the issue. Without the clientele patronizing my business, I cannot survive. I havent been able to keep up with the expenses of running the office , and I'm down to my last penny financially. I've put every cent of a fairly substantial amount into this business, and I shortly will be borrrowing just to pay the bills this month. I have not made a single dollar this year.
So it's with sadness, , as well as my perpetual optimism, that I am attempting to rescue my business from the brink. While I believe I can keep the doors open one more month , even such is foolhardy. In the last week, I've serviced exactly 3 clients, and done less than $100 in business. It's not sustainable. While I am attempting to keep my chin up, much more of business like december ( and january thus far) is going to leave me no alternative but to close. I dont want to do it, but soon there will be no choice if things dont improve pretty much immediately. At this point I'm hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst possible scenario. Groupon will not be returning to my business ( I lost too much money doing groupon vouchers) . I still have the best equipment and the highest skill in the city. I think it unlikely I will cease doing electrolysis.I need the clients help however to survive, I need the patronage or simply put my office will not be open.
All of this leads to the question of "where do we go from here" if things continue as they have been. For the moment I'm doing whats necessary to keep the doors open just a little while longer. in an attempt to save my business in this location. We'll either make it, or more likely, we wont, but I will have made the effort.
At this time I'm also preparing an area in my home to work from. It's going to be far from ideal if needed , and I consider it a temporary measure if that is what happens but a the moment it's my only backup plan. Eventually I would move my practise into a new commercial location, but it is unlikely It will be as nicely suited or located as my current facility. This website will remain a point of contact.
I love what I do. I can only do it however if I'm able to support myself and my family through what I make performing electrolysis. Right now, we are right at the brink, of not being able to provide the service . I wish it were better news and I'm quite honestly heartboken to even be at this point.
